Silent Night holds a very special place for me, this is the painting that was reserved by a collector before it was even finished!
I wanted to capture a magical, still moment; a gathering of wonderful woodland creatures beside a solitary tree on a cool, crisp night. The full moon casts a bright silvery glow over everything, while a starry sky stretches above in the most beautiful depths of blue.
I like to imagine the reindeer is holding everyone's attention, sharing news of the wider world and making plans to make it a more wonderful place. All my favourite characters are there; fox, barn owl, red squirrel, badger, hedgehog, and hare. All gathered together in that quiet, magical way that only happens on a silent night.
And as with all my paintings, there are hidden treasures to discover if you look closely including a little field mouse amongst the frozen foliage, and a tiny snail perched on a mushroom.
Each print is professionally produced in small batches by my local printers, Print North East, so the silvery moonlight and deep blue tones are rendered beautifully. The detail and quality really do justice to the original.
