I've loved wildlife since I was a child, and over the years it has found its way into almost everything I paint. But of all the creatures that have inspired me, few have the sheer audacious charm of the robin.
There's one who lives in my garden, bold as anything, completely unafraid and who has a habit of appearing just when I need a lift. He'll pop up on a nearby branch or hop along the wall as if he's come to check in, head tilted, chest puffed, entirely sure of his welcome. He's been a constant companion through many a painting session.
Robin in Spring is my love letter to him. Part of a series I created celebrating five of my favourite creatures set against the seasons I adore most, this piece captures that feeling of early spring; the world freshening, colour returning, and a robin at the centre of it all, bright-eyed and completely at home. Vibrant, joyful, and full of personality, just like the real thing.
Painted using specialist colourfast, water-based paint on glass and set in a beautiful white wooden moulded frame.
